In this exercise, we develop a visual language used to express measurable around the 116th St area. We use an axonometric view to express both 3-dimensional volumes as well as flat spaces that they project onto the surface of the 116th St region. Solid cubes represent the physical presence of local businesses, encapsulated by a transparent frame of each business’ recognizability among the local community. We overlay the flow of community members through these spaces, categorized into three metrics: price, familiarity, and ethnicity, each exposing a facet of the qualities of the interaction (purpose, social status, and so on). Through the visual language, our subjects begin to suggest certain phenomena of the 116th St area.
