Branch Library

The New York Public Library branch system provides a way for local neighborhoods to access the NYPL resources within each neighborhood’s localized environment. Each branch library addresses not only the informational needs of the surrounding community, but provides the opportunity to create a publicly accessible space informed by and in turn serving the community’s needs. We begin with an informational, spatial, and social analysis of the 203 W 115th Branch library serving the UWS communities, and propose a design for a branch library located at the corner of Canal and Eldridge, providing an office for a fictitious Center for Urban Pedagogy and serving the local cross-cultural community.
